Most Hated Household Cleaning Jobs 2017

Most Hated Household Cleaning Jobs 2017 6 Jun

No matter where you’re from, culture, country of origin or gendered expectation, household cleaning is an entrenched part of being a human. From cleaning our homes, to gardening, to household DIY chores, the list is one giant pain in the back.

A recent survey has revealed the most loathed household cleaning jobs and chores that most homeowners begrudge doing. And the most hated is supposedly decorating, which is hated by just over half of the respondents.

Cleaning itself, strangely comes second, as 47% of people claim cleaning is painful chore to complete. DIY came in at 42%, whilst 41% hate gardening, and 40% dread the ironing board. Interestingly, nearly four in 10, who can afford professional cleaning services, hire a cleaner to carry out some of the main household chores every month. Nick Heath, Head of Insights at Make it Cheaper, whom the survey was conducted by has commented that:

‘It’s really interesting to see the kind of tasks that individuals prefer to complete individually, and which services they trust in the hands of others. Living in the digital age allows the nation access to a multitude of services, helping us to claw back some precious time and trust our own decisions’.

Furthermore, research conducted by Anglian Home Improvements, who surveyed 1000 people found that one in 10 men would be more than happy to splash out on a handyman to do all the household DIY tasks, they just can’t bear to face. Men are also most likely to put any household chores off until the next day, whilst their partners wait approximately four and half months for one jobs to be entirely finished!

In a comment by the home improvements company, it was cited that:

“We are a house proud nation, but it seems we may never learn to love certain jobs around the home. Thankfully, help is on hand, whether this means calling in parents or the professionals. And there will always be a list of chores we find therapeutic to give us the feeling of satisfaction that our homes are in order.”

The research also pointed to nine in 10 Brits regularly putting off six chores around the house. And in correlation to the survey conducted by Make it Cheaper, Anglian Home Improvements also found that British adults will even go as far as splashing £87 to hire a gardener to get down and dirty.
